Vikings to play St. Louis in Week 1 of upcoming NFL season

MINNEAPOLIS – The schedule for the upcoming NFL season was announced Wednesday and the Minnesota Vikings open with a road game at St. Louis on Sept. 7.

The Vikings’ first home game is Week 2 against the New England Patriots and the team’s first NFC North contest is Week 5 at Green Bay.

Minnesota, which has its bye in Week 10, will close the season by hosting Chicago on Dec. 28.

The Vikings will play Oakland, Arizona, Kansas City and Tennessee in the preseason.

Swimmer Phelps withdraws from event in return bid

PHOENIX - Michael Phelps has withdrawn from one of the three events he planned to compete in at his eagerly-anticipated return to competitive swimming.

DULUTH, Minn. – Minnesota-Duluth took both games of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference softball doubleheader from Minnesota State Moorhead on Wednesday.

Brooke Neuroth and Megan Mullen each hit home runs as the Bulldogs doubled up the Dragons 4-2 in Game 1.

Lauren Meeker homered for MSUM in the first game.

Minnesota-Duluth hit two more home runs in Game 2 to claim a 5-3 victory.

Cobbers push softball doubleheader back a day

MOORHEAD – Concordia’s Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader against St. Catherine, originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed to Thursday.

The Cobbers had to cancel Thursday’s doubleheader with MSU Moorhead to make space on the schedule for St. Catherine.

The start times for Thursday’s doubleheader are 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.


North Dakota State wrestler takes FILA national title

LAS VEGAS – North Dakota State sophomore Josh Rodriguez, who sat out this season as a redshirt, won his 132-pound Greco-Roman weight class at the FILA Junior Nationals in Las Vegas last weekend. He also added a fifth-place finish in freestyle.

Competitors must be 19-years-old or younger.

Fargo - When Zach Bosh took over as head coach of the North Dakota State men’s club lacrosse team in 2010, he had one word to describe the Bison.
