Boyle headed to state golf meet for Spuds

FARGO – Moorhead junior Mandy Boyle finished third at the Minnesota Class 3A, Section 8 golf meet at Greystone Golf Course on Wednesday to punch her ticket to the Class 3A state golf meet.

Boyle shot a 155 during the two-day section meet and will head to Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids, Minn., June 10-11 for the state meet.


Clay Nagel resigns as Cobbers wrestling assistant coach

MOORHEAD – Concordia assistant wrestling coach Clay Nagel has resigned and will return to Frazee (Minn.) High School to teach.

Nagel was with the Cobbers for eight seasons, spending the first seven as head coach. He moved into an assistant role this past season as his son, Matt Nagel, took over as the program’s head coach.

“It was a hard decision, I really liked Concordia,” said Clay Nagel, who had been driving from Frazee to Concordia.

Fargo North baseball players Schultz, Brenneman to enter North Dakota Air National Guard

FARGO – Ian Schultz and Seth Brenneman are trading in their baseball spikes for combat boots less than two weeks after they graduate from high school.

The two Fargo North seniors are enlisted in the North Dakota Air National Guard and leave for basic training June 10 in San Antonio.

“It’s pretty cool,” said Schutz, a pitcher. “It gives you a sense of pride. Especially around here, a lot of people really respect that career choice.”

Woods rules himself out of U.S. Open

Tiger Woods has ruled himself out of next month's U.S. Open at Pinehurst in North Carolina while he continues to recover from back surgery.

The former world number one has been sidelined from competitive golf since late March after requiring treatment for a pinched nerve in his back that had troubled him for months.

Saunders, Texas bullpen shut down Twins

Fargo - You have to search long and hard to find something not perfect about North Dakota State senior Tim Colwell, and that includes his personality. He’s not only the baseball team’s best player, but he’s probably the nicest guy.
