Firefighters update Western North Dakota residents on “Elk Horn” wildfire south of Watford City

WATFORD CITY, ND — North Dakota firefighters battling the wildfire south of Watford City say it is approximately 20% contained.

The McKenzie County Sheriff’s office says blaze, called the “Elk Horn” fire, has claimed approximately 22,400 acres of land. Authorities say cooler temps and low winds are helping with firefighting efforts.

“You will continue to see an assortment of aircraft in the McKenzie County area as they continue to provide assistance to the crews on the ground,” wrote the McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office in a social media post today.
