North Dakota animal agriculture bill now law following signature from Governor Doug Burgum

(Bismarck, ND) — A bill meant to grow North Dakota’s animal agriculture sector is now law.

Governor Burgum signed the bill changing the state’s current corporate farming law. Burgum said the bill levels the playing field with other state s by expanding animal agriculture with environmental stewardship. Currently, between 16 and 18 percent of North Dakota’s AG receipts come from livestock, compared to 40-50 percent in neighboring states.

“Signing HB 1371 takes the handcuffs off our farmers and ranchers and allows capital to flow into our state, growing animal agriculture, adding value to crops, creating opportunities and helping rural communities thrive in North Dakota once again, “said a statement from The North Dakota Office of the Governor, “With this bill, we can level the playing field with other states and expand animal agriculture with environmental stewardship.”
