Memorial Weekend Forecast: Elevated Fire Conditions: Windy: Storms

.

The Memorial Day Weekend will be warm/hot, dry, and windy for eastern North Dakota and Minnesota. Temperatures are expected to be in the 80s to low 90s in some spots within the valley. Wind will generally be around 15-30 mph from the south and south-southeast Friday through Monday. Humidity will be low within the valley and also in Minnesota. These three factors will lead to elevated fire conditions.

Keep this in mind if planning to do any burning. Although things are greening up nicely, anything dry could take off if there is an igniter. It’s not until Sunday night that I see a slight possibility for an isolated storm or rain shower pushing close to the red river valley. A better chance for showers and some storms will come on Monday and into the middle of the upcoming week.
A strong to severe storm looks possible but with an expected environment not favorable for organized storms I wouldn’t expect any prolonged severe weather, at this time… I will monitor this over the weekend.

Western and central North Dakota is another story. It’s warm, windy, and wet with scattered showers and storms over the weekend. Some of these storms could be strong to severe. Check out the latest outlook for severe weather. Get the latest outlooks here.
Day 1 (Friday)

Day 2 (Saturday)

Day 3 (Sunday)

This threat will likely slowly continue to push eastward into eastern North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota into next week with more humid conditions starting next week.

Meteorologist,
Justin Storm
