(St. Paul, MN) — A large portion of nearly $80 million dollars will be used to take on invasive species entering or currently residing in Minnesota.
Representative Rick Hansen (DFL-South St. Paul) says the $79.6 million would be split between a wide variety of research projects and institutions. A $7 million dollar section of the total funds will be committed to the University of Minnesota Invasive Terrestrial Plants and Pest Center. A wide list of other projects and departments would also be supported through the bill.
The Environment & Natural Resources Trust Fund currently has an estimated $562.1 million and is operated by the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR). The LCCMR is also seeking $174 million to further fund 101 proposed projects.
The bil passed the House Ways and Means Committee on Monday, and was sent to the House Floor for a vote.
