Governor Walz signs new rural emergency medical services funding bill

(Minneapolis, MN) — Governor Tim Walz signed a bill allocating 30 million dollars to rural emergency medical services.

These services will happen in Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota, with 24 million for short-term aid and six million for a pilot program.

The pilot program will be testing roving paramedics to help improve response times.

Despite the funding, EMS providers say it falls short of the 122 million dollars needed to sustain services.

The bill also addresses an office for EMS and workforce shortages.

An Emergency Medical Service Task Force will propose long term solutions in August.
