(Fargo, ND) — A Fargo precious metals dealer is warning about a scam happening here in the metro which he says many people are falling for.
“They’re giving you a sob story. They’re saying ‘hey man my car broke down. I’m out of gas, I lost my wallet, my wallet got stolen, and I’m just trying to get back to California. I just need a few hundred bucks for gas. I don’t have anything, but I have this gold ring and this gold chain’ and it’s so fake,” said Jack Seaman, owner of MinDak Gold and Silver.
Seaman said several people have come into his stores, trying to sell the fake gold jewelry they’ve purchased from scammers.
Seaman said in many instances, the jewelry features stamps reading “18 karat”.
He said the scammers sometimes will show up in parking lots at gas stations, grocery stores, other retail locations, and in casino parking lots.
Seaman appeared on The Jay Thomas Show.
