Minnesota lawmaker pushes to mandate law-enforcement utilize federal database to track violent crimes utilizing guns

ST. PAUL, MN — A St. Louis Park lawmaker is proposing a bill that would make it mandatory for all Minnesota law enforcement agencies to use the federal database and share the information.

Democrat Ron Latz says 40% of all law enforcement agencies in the state do not use a federal database. The technology is designed to track the history of guns used to commit violent crimes.

Latz plans to introduce the legislation when state lawmakers meet early next year.
