American Crystal Sugar Company fined by Minnesota Pollution Control Agency

(ST PAUL) – The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MNPCA) has fined American Crystal Sugar Company more than $12,000 for air permit violations at its Moorhead facility. According to the MNPCA, American Crystal failed emissions performance stack tests on two boilers last fall. The tests showed that permitted limits for filterable particles and particulate matter were exceeded. Facility reports submitted by the company confirmed several emission deviations, occurring 121 times during 414 testing periods in the first half of 2022. In addition to the fine, the company completed a series of corrective actions and submitted a plan to ensure equipment will operate within permitted limits in the future.
