The Cass County Board of Commissioners has declared a fire emergency and enacted Cass County Burn Restrictions through October 17, 2024, due
to the significant vegetative fuels available and the ongoing dry weather conditions. The restriction will be in effect whenever the North Dakota Rangeland Fire Danger Rating for
Cass County is High, Very High or Extreme and/or a Red Flag Warning has been
issued by the National Weather Service.
The Burn Restriction includes the burning of leaves, grass clippings, garbage/pits,
construction debris, fallen trees, crop residue or hay land, sloughs, and campfires/bonfires/recreation fire.
The penalty for violation of this burn restriction is a Class B Misdemeanor (NDCC 37- 17.1-10.1) with a maximum sentence of 30 days in jail and a $1,500 fine.
Citizens should check the Daily Fire Danger Rating before burning, which is available at ndresponse.gov.
