Cass County elections administrator abruptly resigns weeks before presidential election

(FARGO) — The election administrator for Cass County has resigned. Cass County Administrator Robert Wilson confirmed that Craig Steingaard resigned, effective immediately, on Wednesday. The resignation comes as a result of apparent tensions between Steingaard and Finance Director Brandy Madrigga.

“When I get to work, I dread being there and I do not want to continue down this path,” Steingaard wrote in his resignation letter. “There are several reasons for this and I feel those reasons should be known to the county.”

Steingaard went on to write that his relationship with Madrigga “has devolved rapidly in the last five months,” citing her ‘consistently being rude’ and reprimanding Steingaard in front of other staff, along with other concerns.

In closing his resignation, Steingaard said Madrigga “has also broken me (Steingaard) down to this point and it upsets me greatly.”

He had worked for the county for just shy of three years.
