High beef prices may take a while to come down

UNITED STATES – Beef prices are high and may not come down anytime soon.

Flag Family Media Agriculture Director Bridgette Readel points to a historic drought in beef production states and herd liquidations with high dollar costs for beef.

“Consumers will probably not see lower prices until 2027 or 2028 when our beef supply can recover,” Readel said.

McDonald’s is suing Minnesota-based Cargill, Tyson, JBS and National Beef Packing Company accusing them of colluding to inflate beef prices. The suit alleges the companies are limiting beef supply to raise prices and charging illegally inflated amounts.

Meat processors have previously argued larger supply and demand factors that are out of their control caused prices to increase and that they have not engaged in anti-competitive behavior.
