Multiple airlines suspend flights to Haiti after plane hit by gunfire

DANIA BEACH, FL — Spirit Airlines, Americans Airlines and JetBlue are suspending flights to Haiti after two planes were hit by gunfire Monday.

One was a Spirit flight flying in from Fort Lauderdale that had to be diverted to an airport in the Dominican Republic where it safely landed. At least one person, a flight attendant, was grazed by a bullet. The other was a JetBlue flight where the damage wasn’t discovered until the plane returned to New York. Spirit is suspending flights pending further review. JetBlue is suspending flights through at least December 2nd.

The FAA has suspended all traffic into the capital Port-au-Prince through at least November 18th.
