Tribal groups want part of Western ND to be a national monument

NORTH DAKOTA -Multiple North Dakota groups urge President Joe Biden to declare roughly 140,000 acres of undeveloped federal land in western North Dakota a national monument.

Proponents say the proposed Maah Daah Hey National Monument would preserve land held sacred by members of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara nations as well as other indigenous cultures. The groups say the plan to convert the plots into a national monument would protect them from future development.
