SCOTT COUNTY, Minn. – The Republican Party of Minnesota and GOP State House Candidate Aaron Paul file an election contest lawsuit requesting a new election.
DFL State Representative Brad Tabke won the Shakopee area district by 14 votes. Scott County has said 21 missing votes were likely thrown away and will probably not be recovered.
The race was certified after a hand recount.
A preliminary report from the county says the ballots were in secrecy envelopes after being removed from signature envelopes. Around 12:20 AM November 6, the day after Election Day, City of Shakopee staff confirmed the total of scanned ballots matched the amount they should have reported. During a normal audit the next day, county staff found there was a 21 ballot discrepancy between two precincts.
The House will be evenly split between the DFLers and Republicans at 67 if the lawsuit is unsuccessful.
Republican House Speaker-Designate Lisa Demuth of Cold Spring will talk about the lawsuit on What’s On Your Mind? with Scott Hennen at 10:40 AM on AM 1100 The Flag.
