Jensen calls for increased compensation among judicial system employees

(BISMARCK, ND) – North Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice Jon Jensen says the state’s court system has undergone a three-year study on case management.

As a result, the court learned North Dakota’s judges carry the highest criminal caseloads of all judges in the United States.

As a request to the legislative assembly, Jensen requested increased compensation within the North Dakota judicial system, including the state’s 55 district court judges.

Additionally, Jensen said the judicial branch is supportive of the creation of the Office of Guardianship and Conservatorship in North Dakota. The office would provide a higher level of accountability for public funds used for guardianship and conservatorship in the state. Jensen said the branch is also looking to expand self-help services by adding an attorney and a navigator, and rewrite municipal court statutes.
