(GRAND FORKS, ND) – The Grand Forks community got its first look at the new Altru Hospital Thursday afternoon.
“It looks really nice,” Kathy Skonieczny, a retired nurse, said. “I know it looks empty now, but that will change quickly.”
Chief Financial Officer Derek Goebel said ‘it was a great day for the community.’
“It’s just an honor to be a part of this and to be able to participate in something of this magnitude,” he said.
Altru’s new hospital will open Sunday, January 19. At 6 a.m. on January 19, the ER in the new hospital will open. Traffic will be rerouted to the new ER. All patients will move on January 19 through a temporary connector that goes from the current hospital to the new, and guests of patients in the hospital will be assigned a place to gather in the new hospital until they can join their loved one in their new room. Guests will be limited to ensure a safe and efficient transfer.
