Weekend snow and bitter cold

Well, it IS January and so far we’ve been pretty spoiled in terms of winter weather.   A quick moving Alberta clipper system will push into the area Saturday into Saturday night with some light snowfall.  Here’s a look at some of our models predictions:

Models are pretty much in agreement for around 1-3″ and that seems about right.  Now there will be some areas that pick up 4″ with some banding of the snow.  The bigger issue will be the increase in winds on Saturday night into Sunday causing blowing and drifting of the snow with slick conditions.  So, although Saturday will be a bit slippery with the falling snow, Sunday will be a bit rough with the blowing snow especially with the areas picking up the higher snowfall totals.   It looks like around 2-3″ is a good bet in the F/M area.  Following the snow, bitter cold air will settle in for the start of next week with highs between 0 to 5 above and nighttime lows around  -10 to -15 below. However, by the end of next week we moderate to temps in the upper 20s!!!  snowfall
