Senate Armed Services Committee advances Hegseth’s Defense Secretary nomination

WASHINGTON –  The Senate Armed Services Committee votes to send Pete Hegseth’s nomination to be defense secretary to the Senate floor.

All 14 Republicans voted in favor of Hegseth, including North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer. All 13 Democrats voted against Hegseth’s nomination. The full Senate will now vote on Hegseth’s nomination.

He has faced criticism regarding allegations of alcohol abuse, sexual assault, and financial mismanagement. Hegseth has denied the allegations.

“I support Pete Hegseth not only because of his devotion to his faith, family, and country, but because of his lifelong oath to protect and serve our nation. Pete is an intellect and fierce patriot with dust on his boots. Under President Trump’s leadership, he will restore a peace-through-strength ethos respected on the global stage. I urge my colleagues to join me in supporting his nomination on the Senate floor,” Cramer said in a statement.
