N.D. House, Senate leaders voice support for carbon pipelines, capture and storage and enhanced oil recovery

(BISMARCK, ND) – North Dakota’s legislative leaders are voicing their support for carbon pipelines, capture and storage and enhanced oil recovery.

Senate Majority Leader David Hogue, of Minot, and House Majority Leader Mike Lefor, of Dickinson, say the support of the areas put North Dakota in the forefront of the energy and ag sectors.

Hogue says the state’s carbon capture efforts ‘position North Dakota as a world leader in energy and agriculture.’ Lefor says the oil and gas industry in the state needs ‘more CO2 for enhanced oil recovery to reach its full potential.’

The North Dakota House and Senate are considering legislation this week that would repeal decades of sound public policy in carbon capture, transport, storage, and utilization. The bills being heard in House and Senate Energy and Natural Resources would drastically change how carbon capture, transport, and utilization function in the state, from revoking authorization and oversight ability to flat out prohibiting the process.

Current policy in North Dakota has resulted in four consequential CO2 projects already operating in the state, and many world-class projects on the horizon.

The bills will likely be voted on in their respective committees over the next week before heading to the floor.
