American Lung Association gives ND tobacco policies an F

UNITED STATES – North Dakota’s tobacco-related policies get an F from The American Lung Association.

Chief among the group’s complaints were the state’s 44 cents per cigarette pack sales tax compared to the national average of $1.93.

Senate Minority Leader Kathy Hogan of Fargo has introduced a bill raising the sales tax to 69 cents per pack.

A House bill introduced by five members.. including Republican Carrie McLeod of Fargo and Democrat Alisa Mitskog of Wahpeton.. would increase the tobacco tax by one dollar.

The American Lung Association also singled out North Dakota’s relatively lax tobacco-control policies.
