(FARGO, ND) – A Fargo man pleads not guilty.
Alex Cruz made the plea in Cass County District Court to a Class B Felony charge of duty in accident involving death or injury – death and a Class B Misdemeanor charge of driving under suspension.
The 23-year-old Cruz was involved in a hit-and-run crash, involving a pedestrian, in the intersection of 53rd Avenue South and 38th Street South in late December. The pedestrian, Robyn Krause, died as a result of the injuries she sustained in the crash.
Once Cruz was located, he was advised of his Miranda warning.
He stated he was late for work, looked down to get his phone from his center console and struck something. He said it was difficult to see due to excessively tinted windows. He stated he believed he had struck a deer, and did not stop and check on what he had struck, but instead left the scene.
He remains in the Cass County Jail.
