Regional experts react to Chris Wright’s confirmation as Department of Energy Secretary

(REGIONAL) – Industry experts are reacting to the confirmation of Chris Wright as the Secretary of Energy.

“Chris Wright will be an amazing Secretary of Energy,” Western Dakota Energy Association Executive Director Geoff Simon said. “It’s totally refreshing to actually have a Secretary of Energy who knows something about energy, because that has not always been the case.”

He says Wright has a ‘thorough understanding of the role of fossil fuels in the U.S. economy.’

Ron Ness, North Dakota Petroleum Council President, says Wright will do a ‘great job’ advocating for and inspiring American energy production.

Randy Christmann, who chairs the North Dakota Public Service Commission, says Wright’s background in developing America’s natural resources ‘is exactly what we need. Responsibly developing these resources makes America stronger and the world a better place to live.’

The Commission is a constitutional agency with varying degrees of statutory authority over abandoned mine lands, coal mine reclamation, electric and gas utilities, telecommunications companies, energy conversion facility siting, transmission facility siting, railroads and railroad safety, weighing and measuring devices, gas pipeline safety, and underground damage prevention.

WDAY Radio has reached out to UND Energy and Environmental Research Center CEO Charlie Gorecki for comment on the confirmation.
