SAINT PAUL, Minn. – A Minnesota House bill would restrict undocumented immigrants from accessing services funded by the state.
All 11 Minnesota Republican members of the Health Finance and Policy Committee voted to remove those who are undocumented from the programs like state health care and the North Star Promise college scholarship program.
Health care providers testified keeping an estimated 7,700 undocumented people on MinnesotaCare keeps emergency room visit costs down. The Minnesota Farmers Union says farmers need undocumented workers.
It is estimated that $100 million will be saved by the state if this bill is passed.
The bill is unlikely to pass in the DFL-controlled Senate.
