Fargo leaders vote to change consuming alcohol in public, urinating in public to infractions

(FARGO, ND) — The Fargo City Commission is giving the green light to changing consuming alcohol in public and public urination from non-criminal violations to infractions.

Police Chief David Zibolski said further review of other offenses will happen in the future, but the two are concerns for the downtown community.

Downtown Community Partnership Executive Director Rocky Schneider says the goal ‘isn’t to put everyone in jail,’ but rather to allow police the flexibility to make decisions when needed. Chief David Zibolski said his officers ‘have discretion when they can make an arrest.’

The commission voted 4-1, with City Commissioner John Strand voting against the change.
