Shelter in place ordered for Spirit Lake Nation

SPIRIT LAKE NATION – The Spirit Lake Tribal Council is asking people to remain calm and shelter in place, as authorities look into a homicide in the area.

“(Tuesday) morning, an incident occurred within the boundaries Spirit Lake Reservation, and we are currently awaiting details from law enforcement,” The Spirit Lake Nation said on Facebook.

A spokesperson for the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office tells Flag Family Media that the FBI and the state’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation is working with Spirit Lake Nation to look into a homicide.

It is still unclear if there is more than one victim, and if police are currently searching for a shooter.

The Fargo Police Department says they’re aware of the situation.

“We do not have any other details related to the incident or any verified information that the suspect is traveling to Fargo,” said Fargo Criminal Investigations Captain Bill Ahlfeldt in a written statement.

Flag Family Media has also attempted to reach the FBI’s Minneapolis Office about the investigation.

The tribal council says it will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Tribal officials urge you not to approach people involved in suspicious activity and report it to local law enforcement at 701-766-4231.
