Biden on stepping away from reelection bid: “It’s become clear to me that I need to unite my party in this critical endeavor”

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Just days after returning to the White House after testing positive for COVID-19, President Joe Biden spoke to the nation, Wednesday night, for the first time after announcing he will not seek reelection.

“In recent weeks, it’s become clear to me that I need to unite my party in this critical endeavor. I believe my record as president, my leadership in the world, my vision for America’s future, all merit a second term, but nothing, nothing can come in the way of saving our democracy,” he said. “That includes personal ambition.”

Biden said ‘the best way forward’ is, “to pass the torch to a new generation.”

Biden spoke of current Vice President Kamala Harris, who announced her candidacy shortly after Biden backed out, saying, “She experienced, she’s tough, she’s capable. She’s been an incredible partner to me and a leader for our country.”
