BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota Senate unanimously passes a bill for a $3 million line of credit for a building at the Fargo National Cemetery.
The bill now moves to the House of Representatives.
“There will be a chapel inside, there will be an office for the (Veterans Affairs) employee, there will be a break room for the honor guard, there will be indoor bathrooms, which will be very nice,” Jason Hicks with the Fargo Memorial Honor Guard said.
The cemetery has held funerals during winter without anything but a tent to block the cold and snow. The only bathrooms are porta-potties.
Hicks says North Dakota Senator John Hoeven is working directly with Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins who has committed to help advance upgrades at the cemetery.
The honor guard has raised more than $1.5 million in private donations for the building. Click here to donate.
