(BISMARCK, ND) – A bill that would have given free breakfast and lunch to all students has died in the North Dakota House.
House Bill 1475 would have appropriated $140 million from the general fund to pay for the meals in the 2025-27 biennium. The emerged from the House Education committee with an 8-5 do pass recommendation and was then referred to the House Appropriations committee, who recommended do not pass via a 14-8 vote last Friday.
The House voted 54-39 to defeat the bill.
