WASHINGTON – Brooke Rollins is confirmed by the Senate to be Secretary of Agriculture in a 72 to 28 vote.
Republican North Dakota Senators John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer and Democratic Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, the Ranking Member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, voted in favor of Rollins’ confirmation. Democratic Minnesota Senator Tina Smith voted against her.
Democrats agreed to shorten floor time after the Senate Agriculture Committee voted on to move forward her nomination unanimously.
Rollins served as chief for domestic policy the first Trump Administration. She is a conservative legal activist who most recently served as president of the America First Policy Institute. It’s a Trump-aligned think tank.
Rollins is expected to work with lawmakers on the stalled Farm Bill and on assistance for farmers.
