Burgum Requests Presidential Disaster Declaration for Wildfires

BISMARCK, N.D. – Governor Doug Burgum requests a presidential major disaster declaration for the fires that scorched northwest North Dakota last month.

The governor is looking for help in covering the estimated $8 million to repair the damage.

The letter to FEMA and President Joe Biden requests a major disaster be declared for Williams and McKenzie counties for October 5 and 6. The state says 270 livestock were killed by the fire and approximately 14,000 acres of pasture and rangeland were lost.
