Bus company shares cause of two separate fires in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. – Valley Bus now says two separate fires impacting some of their empty parked buses this week in Fargo were “electrical in nature” but are “unrelated”.

The first fire took place in the early morning hours of March 27th at a bus depot near 25th Street South.

The second occurred the following day, not far from the original fire.

A city spokesperson says firefighters responded to the 2700 block of Leahy Avenue South around 2:21 Friday morning putting out a school bus on fire.

Officials say several callers reported an unoccupied school bus engulfed in flames and affecting a neighboring bus.

An investigator responded to the incident due to the suspicious surroundings of the fire.

In a statement on social media, Valley Bus says the fires happened outside of operating hours and the buses were not running.

The company says it’s also conducting an internal review, and says the incidents won’t impact student transportation or bus routes.

“We want to emphasize that safety remains our top priority,” the company wrote in part.  “We are working closely with local fire departments and the bus manufacturer to determine the exact cause.”
