Concordia College announces a master of social work program

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Concordia College launches a Master of Social Work program amid a growing need for social workers.

The one-year Advanced Standing Program beginning next summer is designed for people with a bachelor’s degree in social work. It has online evening classes. Applications are open November 15th.

The two-year Foundation Program gives a path for those with undergraduate degrees in other fields. Students will complete one year of on-campus classes and an in-person clinical practicum. The program is set to begin in January of 2026.

Graduates can get licensed allowing them to provide diagnostic assessments, treatment planning, and mental health care.

Concordia officials say there’s a projected 22 percent increase in demand for mental health professionals over the next decade.

“In rural areas, there are often limited social work resources, despite unique community needs. We hope organizations can ‘grow their own’ clinical staff to support these communities,” Concordia graduate and clinical therapist for 20 years Dr. Kelli Gast said.
