(DETROIT TOWNSHIP, MINN) – The Becker County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash near the Sunlite Bar and Grill.
Authorities were called over the weekend after a caller said a male and female walked into the bar claiming they were in a single vehicle crash. Both appeared to be injured.
Deputies and other emergency responders arrived at the scene, which was approximately three miles north of Detroit lakes on County Highway 21. Upon arrival, they located a heavily damaged vehicle that had crashed into a tree on the south side of the bar.
Initial investigation reveals a vehicle, driven by 18-year-old Ronald Alvin Wright, of Detroit Lakes, was northbound when he lost control and struck a tree, stopping the vehicle from entering the south side of the bar. He and his 15-year-old passenger were believed to be wearing seatbelts, although alcohol and speed may have been contributing factors for the crash.
Wright was transported to the hospital by ambulance, while the passenger was taken to the hospital by private vehicle.
Upon release, Wright was arrested for Criminal Vehicular Operation and booked into the Becker County Jail.
