Fargo City Commissioners to discuss security policy

(FARGO, ND) – Following a recent incident where an attendee of a Fargo City Commission meeting had a knife on their person, city officials are now discussing potential security policies.

City Administration Michael Redlinger says, in a memo to commissioners, that the January 22 City Commission Governance Workshop contained discussion on ‘various aspects of physical and personal security in City of Fargo facilities.’

Changes will be noticed at the February 3 commission meeting. A rope line will separate the public from the Commission dais. City staff will also continue to review the placement of security services staff within Chambers during events.

City Commissioners will be asked to authorize the City Attorney’s Office and city departments to develop and recommend a security policy, with an executive session being held February 18 to discuss the policies, procedures and future plans.
