Fargo North boys’ basketball coach placed on leave pending investigation

FARGO, N.D. – Fargo Public Schools says in a statement Fargo North’s head boys’ basketball coach and Ben Franklin Middle School Teacher Travis Hoeg was placed on administrative leave on Wednesday pending an investigation.

The district tells Flag Family News Fargo Police isn’t involved in the investigation.

Valley News Live obtained a letter Fargo Public Schools sent to parents Wednesday.

The Fargo North Spartans are set to play Bismarck Century at 4:00 PM Thursday in the first round of the State Division AA Tournament.

“Dear Spartan Basketball Families,

This email is to inform you that Fargo Public Schools has placed North High School Boys Basketball Coach Travis Hoeg on administrative leave pending the outcome of an administrative investigation. Due to this, Coach Hoeg is unable to coach the Spartan team during the upcoming state tournament.

North High School Assistant Basketball Coach Paul Zens will serve as the interim head coach and will coach the team this weekend.

This information was shared with the team prior to practice today.

Due to the open investigation, North High School administrators are unable to share any further information at this time.

Thank you for your understanding. While this is an unfortunate situation, our focus is on the team and supporting our Spartans as they enter the state tournament tomorrow. We look forward to cheering on our team tomorrow at 4 p.m.”

In 2019, Hoeg was named Fargo Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year.
