Fargo Police detain person of interest in Friday shooting

(FARGO) – Fargo Police say the homicide investigation in Fargo is fully underway.

Authorities responded to a report of a shooting at 1:16 p.m. at 2202 12th Avenue South, south of McCormick Park. They were told a male had been shot.

“Upon arrival, officers quickly secured the scene,” Criminal Investigations Captain Bill Ahlfeldt said in a press conference late Friday afternoon.

He said the victim was transported to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased.

Investigators and detectives from the Fargo Police Department are on scene actively investigating the incident. Ahlfeldt said the investigation ‘is very new and constantly developing.’

He said the department is currently notifying next-of-kin of the victim. Once completed, the victim’s name will be released.

“The Fargo Police Department extends its condolences to the families of this victim, and will diligently investigate this incident to its fullest extent,” Ahlfeldt said.

He said one person of interest has been detained, but other persons of interest are being sought. The person was detained near The Arbors at McCormick Park. Ahlfeldt said he could not pinpoint the exact location of the detainment.

Ahlfeldt said the department believes the parties involved were known to each other, and that there is no danger to the public.

“If you know someone that was involved in this incident, let us know and don’t approach this individual, as they could be armed and dangerous,” he said.

A police presence was noted at The Arbors, and Ahlfeldt said there were descriptions and leads given that led them to The Arbors. He said officers were following up on the leads as a part of the investigation.
