Fargo Police Traffic Safety Team begins heightened enforcement of driving laws

(FARGO) – The Fargo Police Department (FPD) has reconstituted its Traffic Safety Team to increase enforcement of driving laws and to curb dangerous, illegal driving. This week, officers on the team are beginning heightened enforcement efforts across the city, with a focus on making streets safer for all residents and visitors. The team will patrol high-traffic areas of Fargo and will respond to community concerns regarding speeding, racing, exhibition driving, loud mufflers and other illegal behavior.

“The creation of a team of officers solely dedicated to traffic safety will help the FPD consistently enforce driving laws throughout the community, while our other officers continue to respond to a high volume of calls for service,” stated Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski. “Along with proactive enforcement, the Traffic Safety Team will educate residents to deter violations and apply data to prevent traffic crashes and decrease impaired driving.”

A $750,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice is assisting with the expenses of the salary and benefits of the Traffic Safety Team’s six officers over a three-year period.

“I want to acknowledge the FPD leaders and community members who have raised concerns about illegal driving behaviors in our community. These concerns have been transformed into action with the reconstitution of the FPD’s Traffic Safety Team,” stated Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney.
