Flood Diversion Authority begins process to name executive director

(FARGO) – The Metro Flood Diversion Authority has begun the process to hire its next full-time executive director.

Joel Paulsen resigned from the Metro Flood Diversion Authority in April, citing a contract dispute. In an April 26 meeting of the authority, members said Paulsen stepped outside of his official duty with contractors ‘by talking about possible replacement of currently-completed diversion to place epoxy covered rebar in the structure.’

Robert Wilson, co-director of the Authority, said he and his other co-director, Fargo City Administrator Michael Redlinger, have worked with the chairwoman of the authority, Moorhead Mayor Shelly Carlson; vice chair, Tony Grindberg, a member of the Cass County Commission; and Cass County Assistant Administrator and Human Resources Director, Tracy Peters, to develop a screening and interview process and schedule.

The position will close on September 6. After that, Carlson, Grindberg, Redlinger, Wilson and Peters will review the applications and identify preferred candidates to be interviewed by the Planning Committee.

The planning committee will, on October 4, conduct closed door interviews with the preferred candidates, followed by deliberation to identify finalists.

The in-person interviews, including the entire board, would be on October 18.

Wilson said it’s the hope that the Authority Board will consider the appointment of the new executive director at the October 24 board meeting.
