SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Former DFL Minnesota State Senator Melisa Lopez Franzen of Edina is entering the race for the U.S. Senate.
She served as the Minority Leader of the Minnesota Senate from 2021 to 2023.
Lopez Franzen says her campaign will focus on fighting for working families, expanding economic opportunity, and bringing common sense and decency to Washington.
Her move comes after Democratic Senator Tina Smith announced she wouldn’t run for reelection. Other candidates are DFL Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, Republican former NBA player Royce White and Republican retired Navy SEAL Adam Schwarze.
