(FOSSTON, MINN) – The City of Fosston, Minn., says the it will continue towards its goal of restoring local healthcare decision making to the community.
In a letter sent to the City of Fosston earlier this week, Essentia Health and First Care Medical Services (FCMS) assert that the City does not have the authority to unilaterally terminate the 2009 affiliation agreement or force the transfer of FCMS to the City.
“Nothing could be further from the truth. As the City Council made clear in its resolution, its ultimate goal is to restore local healthcare decision making to the community, preserving uninterrupted healthcare access and quality for decades to come,” the City wrote in a social media post. “To that end, the City has the legal right to terminate the affiliation agreement—and, in doing so, return governance of First Care to the community where it belongs.”
The City of Fosston says it is ‘prepared to exercise all of its legal rights to resolve these issues in the appropriate forum.’
