Grand Forks childcare worker facing child abuse charge

(GRAND FORKS, ND) – A childcare worker is facing a Class B Felony charge of child abuse following an incident at a Grand Forks daycare. According to court documents, a childcare worker was holding a child and thrusting the child ‘up and away’ as well as violently pulling the child back towards her. The child had been crying, and the investigating officer observed the child’s head snap backwards then forward in a violent fashion. The child was then forcefully slammed into the ground, causing the child’s legs to be thrown back and the lower torso, hips and top of her legs struck the ground.

The childcare worker, Jarae Grad, said she ‘threw’ and ‘dropped her down’ to get the child to stop crying, and told authorities she ‘was a little mad, little frustrated’ when the incident happened.

Bond was set at $5000 Cash or Surety with a no contact provision: no contact with Juvenile Jane Doe and Juvenile Jane Doe’s family. Grad will appear for arraignment on December 2.
