Hunter accidentally shot in Clay County

2:30 p.m. update: (CLAY COUNTY, MINN.) – Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting now says the hunter, a 34-year-old Dilworth man, suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Lifesaving efforts began immediately.

In addition to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota DNR Conservation Officers, Sanford Ambulance, Sanford Airmed and the Red River Regional Dispatch Center assisted on the call.

The incident remains under investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: (CLAY COUNTY, MINN.) – Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting has confirmed to WDAY/WZFG Radio News that a hunter has been accidentally shot earlier this morning.

The incident happened at just before 8 a.m. in the 4600 block of 90th Avenue North, which is northeast of the City of Moorhead. Empting says the shooting was accidental.

The hunter, who has not been identified, was taken to Sanford Hospital in Fargo by helicopter with serious injuries.

The incident is under investigation.
