Isaac Fruechte named UND Football interim head coach

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Isaac Fruechte is named the interim head coach of North Dakota Fighting Hawks football.

The announcement comes after Bubba Schweigert stepped down as head coach after 11 seasons. He is taking a senior administrative role in the athletic department.

Fruechte was UND’s offensive coordinator and has served on coaching staffs at Winona State, Northern State, Northern Iowa and Wisconsin La Crosse. The Caledonia, Minnesota native was a wide receiver for the Gophers and played one game for the Vikings in 2016. He will serve in the role during a national search for North Dakota’s next head coach.
