Julie Fedorchak wins ND U.S. House race

BISMARCK, N.D. – The Associated Press projects Republican Public Service Commissioner Julie Fedorchak has beaten veteran, former teacher and oil worker Democratic candidate Trygve Hammer for North Dakota’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

She is the first woman to represent North Dakota in the House.

“I’m so honored and so excited to have this great honor to represent people in North Dakota,” she said after the victory.

Fedorchak will succeed Congressman Kelly Armstrong who won his race for North Dakota governor. She was appointed to the Public Service Commissioner in December 2012 by then Governor Jack Dalrymple. She also served as former North Dakota Governor Ed Schafer’s Communications Director.

She said she looks forward to building relationships and working on policy issues important to North Dakotans.
