RANSOM COUNTY, N.D. – A portion of the Keystone Pipeline has ruptured near Fort Ransom, North Dakota.
Program Manager for the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality Bill Seuss says an employee heard a noise just south of a pumping station when the spill took place. The pipeline was shut down after the incident.
“They’re reporting it as a small area. I don’t have a size in acreage yet. It is confined to a field. The DEQ is responding to the site. The EPA has informed us somebody will be up to check it out. We’ll make sure it gets cleaned up,” Seuss said.
Seuss says the public shouldn’t be concerned since it’s a fair distance from any population centers adding it will take some time to determine how much oil leaked out and what caused it.
