Letter of intent signed to house state inmates at Grand Forks County Correctional Center

(GRAND FORKS, ND) – The Grand Forks County Commission is signing off on a letter of intent to enter into an agreement to house North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCR) residents at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center.

“We appreciate the Commission’s unanimous vote expressing their interest to enter an agreement to house DOCR residents at the County Correctional Center,” Governor Kelly Armstrong said. “This will be a win-win for both parties, with the state securing access to jail beds to relieve pressure on our overcrowded prisons and the county securing another source of revenue to service the debt on their recently completed yet underutilized jail facility.”

The residents will be housed in unused space in the new expansion, the Governor said.

“The DOCR is eager to partner with the Grand Forks County Correctional Center to improve access to programs and services for state inmates in county jail,” said DOCR Director Colby Braun. “We appreciate Governor Armstrong’s vision and are focused on delivering services that promote positive change, helping individuals return as better neighbors to our communities.”
