Flood fight 2023 underway as volunteer sandbaggers converge on Cass County facility in West Fargo

(West Fargo, ND) — Volunteers are showing up, and more are still needed, to help fill sandbags in response to anticipated flooding along the Red River and elsewhere in Cass County.

“Every time I walk past volunteers as they’re coming in I thank them because again, we can’t do it without that volunteer spirit, they’re something special about where we’re from,” said Cass County Engineer Jason Benson.

Benson is overseeing the effort launched Tuesday at the Cass County Highway Department building in West Fargo.

Volunteers are working morning, afternoon, and early evening hours.

The goal is to fill 200 thousand sandbags by Friday.

Area middle school students and NDSU students were among those who helped out Tuesday.

To volunteer, sign up online at CassCountyND.gov.
