Moorhead City Council establishes TIF District for former Moorhead Center Mall

(Moorhead, Minn.) – The site where the former Moorhead Center Mall once sat may now see a revitalization.

The Moorhead City Council on Monday approved the development of a Tax Increment Financing District.

The redevelopment will span approximately nine city blocks and will turn the site into a redeveloped area “which will provide residents and visitors amenities year-round to live, work, relax, learn, and be entertained,” according to a City Council memo from Mikaela Huot, Director with Baker Tilly.

“By creating an area featuring mixed-use housing and retail, recreational facilities, restaurants, the arts, convenient parking, and more the site will re-establish key streets and strengthen the connection to the river,” she said. “Growth in this area will provide tremendous tax benefits for the City of Moorhead, state of Minnesota and the community.”

Huot says demolition and subsequent construction of the new development is projected to start this summer and continue construction through 2030.
