Woman dies in I-94 crash near Glyndon

(Glyndon, Minn) – The Minnesota State Patrol says a 90-year-old woman is dead following a crash in Clay County on Friday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Jesse Grabow, a 2011 Chevy Suburban LTZ was westbound on I-94 in heavy rain when it went off the road, struck the cable barrier and reentered the westbound lanes.

The Suburban was driven by 64-year-old Michael Wimme, of Marco Island, Fla., who was not injured. The 90-year-old was a passenger, from Stevens Point, Wisc., in Wimme’s vehicle.

Two other women, 66-year-old Michele Wimme, from Marco Island, and 91-year-old Jean Stroik, of Stevens Point, were in the vehicle. Wimme was not injured, and Stroik suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Sanford Hospital.

The Suburban, when it went into the westbound lanes, collided with a 2024 FTL semi, driven by 28-year-old Brandon Byron, of Fargo. Byron was not injured.

The Patrol said the 90-year-old woman’s identity would be released Saturday.

Clay County Sheriff’s deputies, Glyndon Fire, Moorhead Fire and F-M Ambulance assisted the Minnesota State Patrol.
